LA GRANDE, Ore. (EOU) - Eastern Oregon University will celebrate Homecoming and Oktoberfest Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17.
Events on tap include the annual Mountaineer Booster Club Scholarship Golf Scramble, Alumni Honors Ceremony and Athletic Hall of Fame Induction. Other highlights are the Alumni Association Reunion Breakfast, Oktoberfest booths, Children's Activity Area, athletic events and more.
Activities on Friday will kick-off with the golf scramble at Buffalo Peak Golf Course in Union at 10 a.m. New this year is an Alumni Authors' Reception at 1:30 p.m. in EOU's Pierce Library.
The Homecoming Parade will also be on Friday. Fred and Phyllis Arnst, of La Grande, are the grand marshals. Lineup is at 4 p.m. at the corner of Hemlock Street and Adams Avenue. The parade begins at 4:30 p.m. and will proceed down Adams to Fourth Street.
At 6 p.m. the recipients of the 2009 Alumni Awards and outstanding alumni athletes will be recognized at the Alumni Honors Ceremony and Athletic Hall of Fame Induction. The reception and ceremony will take place in the Hoke Union Building. An Alumni After Hours Reception follows at Ten Depot Street Restaurant at 9 p.m.
Volleyball games are slated for both Friday and Saturday nights, with EOU playing Northwest Christian College on Friday and Corbin College on Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m. each night in Quinn Coliseum. Tickets are $6 for general admission; free to EOU students with identification.
Saturday morning the Alumni Association holds its reunion breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Hoke Union Building. The Mountaineer Cross Country Meet starts at 9 a.m. at the track facility and the Tailgate Zone opens at 10:30 a.m. adjacent to the tennis courts.
Browse vendor booths and visit the Children's Activity Area beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing through halftime of the Homecoming football game. The Mountaineers take the field at 1 p.m. at Community Stadium to play the University of Montana-Northern. Tickets are $6 general admission and free to EOU students with identification. Everyone is invited to a fifth-quarter celebration in the Hoke Union Building after the game.
