LA GRANDE, Ore. (EOU) - In the spirit of Oregon's sesquicentennial celebration, Eastern Oregon University will partner with SOLV and Oregon 150 for a campus-wide cleanup day May 26.
Volunteers from the university and community are invited to participate in the event that is part of the statewide Take Care of Oregon initiative. Check-in will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Stadium. Volunteers may sign-up for any duration of time throughout the day. Cleanup activities around campus begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. Specific projects include planting flowers, spreading bark mulch and removing weeds and litter.
"This is a great opportunity to join residents all across the state as we 'Take Care of Oregon' by beautifying this already gorgeous campus," said Jon Larkin, director of annual giving and alumni programs at EOU. "In addition to the very rewarding work, it's fun to get out of the office, interact and spend a few hours in the dirt!"
Gloves, lawn and garden bags and tools will be provided. Volunteers should bring sturdy shoes, long pants, hats, sunscreen and water.
Community Stadium is located at the "G" Avenue entrance to campus on 6th Street. EOU staff will be available to assist and direct volunteers. To sign up in advance visit the SOLV website at www.solv.org/default.asp and select "Union County" from the left drop-down menu. For more information call Larkin at 962-3740.
