their summer break.
Students that we hire are termed Branch Managers and their duties
and approximate hourly commitments are as follows:
Managers are trained on and do the following activities: market
for leads, create estimates, present the estimate to the customer
and sell the job, schedule the job, recruit for and hire the
painters, manage the painters to paint the houses during the
summer, satisfy the customers while doing a quality job.
Spring Term: Part-time (9-10 avg. hours a week) salary is $9/hr
paid bi-weekly
Summer Term: Full-time (40-50 avg. hours a week) salary is $9/hr
paid bi-weekly
Total Salary $5,944.
We provide all of the training and support for the above listed
duties of the Managers. We provide all of the licenses and
insurance necessary to be a licensed business in the State of
Washington and Oregon. We process all payrolls and do all taxes.
Our managers are not franchise owners and therefore do not have
to pay an up front cost to be hired and trained by
studentpainters.net. The only thing that a manager must provide
is access to a vehicle, Studentpainter.net supplies all other
capital. The penalty for failure is failure itself. No debts are
incurred.
Students that go through our program gain invaluable real world
experience in business, management, customer satisfaction, and
general interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills. The average
earnings for our Branch Managers last summer was $10,800 +.
Students who qualify for the program for a second and third year
earn even more. It is not only a great way for students to build
their resume and gain unique and valuable experience, but it is a
great way for them to pay their way through college. |

for our Dining Room and Culinary teams for the upcoming 2009 season. Interviews will be conducted as necessary for bell staff, wine stewards, children’s program counselors, lifeguard, front desk staff, dishwashers, culinary staff and dining room personnel. Certain positions will fill faster than others due to department size and needs.The Eseeola Lodge will begin interviewing applicants for the 2009 season in November of 2008. Prospective applicants must be available the entire season (mid May until late October) to be considered for employment. Employee training will begin several days prior to the opening of the lodge. Employees are provided with a room and a shift meal for each shift worked. These privileges are provided free of charge. Scholarships are available for employees who will be returning to undergraduate and graduate school in the United States during and/or after the 2009 season. POSITION TITLE: Blue Mountains Field Assistant
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-Time
SERVICE DATES: May 25, 2009 to November 30, 2009
LOCATION: Galena, Oregon (housing provided at Nature Conservancy Preserves)
AmeriCorps members will perform duties to advance the mission of the Conservancy for a half term of service equal to 900 hours (approximately 40 hours per week for 6 months). They receive a modest living allowance of $6,035 for a living stipend (paid bi-weekly), health insurance, reimbursement for service-related travel expenses, and are eligible for an education award in the amount of $2,362.50. Members will receive professional development training, mentorship, and will learn skills to advance their careers.
The Blue Mountains Field Assistant advances stewardship and monitoring projects at the Conservancy’s Dunstan Homestead and Juniper Hills Preserves. The 1,200 acre Dunstan Homestead Preserve was acquired by the Conservancy in 1990 for the contributions it makes to aquatic, river floodplain, and dry pine forest ecosystems in the upper John Day watershed. The 14,000 acre Juniper Hills Preserve was acquired by the Conservancy in 1998 for the contributions it makes to shrub steppe, juniper woodland, and aquatic ecosystems in the Crooked River watershed. The Field Assistant will spend approximately 80% of their time at the Dunstan Homestead Preserve, and 20% of their time at the Juniper Hills Preserve. Duties of the Field Assistant will include the following:
• Weed mapping and treatment including the application of herbicides. Member will be required to obtain the appropriate herbicide applicator’s license and participate in related training.
• Collection of diverse upland, riparian, and aquatic monitoring data.
• Maintenance and development of preserve infrastructure including buildings and fences.
• Providing information to preserve visitors, patrolling preserves for unauthorized use, and supervising volunteer work crews.
• Participate in prescribed burns and wildland fire operations including: ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, etc. All members participating in prescribed burns must meet National Wildfire Coordinating Group qualifications and pass a Pack Test. The Pack Test is a valid, job-related test, which measures an individual’s capacity for arduous work.
• As a condition of employment the Field Assistant will be required to live at the Dunstan Homestead and Juniper Hills Preserve properties. Housing will be provided at both Preserves.
The Field Assistant will split their time between the Dunstan Homestead and the Juniper Hills Preserves. Both of these preserve locations are a 1 hour drive from towns that provide services such as groceries, gasoline, and hardware stores. The Dunstan Homestead Preserve is located 1 hour from the town of John Day (population of 2,000). The Juniper Hills Preserve is located 1 hour outside the town of Prineville (population of 10,000).
TRAVEL: The Field Assistant will have to travel between the Dunstan Homestead and the Juniper Hills preserves. Member will also travel to other locations throughout the state and to the Portland office for required meetings and trainings. Members can anticipate at least 2-3 weeks of overnight travel total throughout the year. Travel may involve driving on narrow, hazardous logging roads during wet and muddy road conditions.
While participating on the roving crew, this position will be required to travel throughout Oregon for up to ten days at a time during the months of September through October. Travel may include cooking and sleeping in rustic conditions. A vehicle will be provided by The Nature Conservancy for this travel, but the Field Assistant will be required to have a valid drivers license.

During the summer months, our primary responsibility is "wildland fire suppression." We are organized into two different types of fire suppression modules: 3-to-5 person engine crews and 20-person handcrews. 110 temporary firefighters are emplyed within the Umpqua National Forest every summer.
Duties can range from constructing handline to stopping fire spread by removing all organic material from the fire's edge to protecting structures by removing combustible material from around homes. Firefighters hike several miles in one day while packing at 30-to-40 pound backpack, often in hot temperatures and steep terrain. Our fire fighters also help out during large scale disasters. When not on fire assignments, fire fighters do various types of fuels reduction work - mostly thinning trees and brush, and then piling the material. While working for the Forest Service fire fighters receive the best available training of any wildland firefighting organization. |

1st position: This position will last appx. From April 21st to September 25. Duties will include but are not limited to inspection and treatment, if required of larval breeding sources of mosquitoes throughout Union County. Also any action required to reduce breeding sources of mosquitoes in Union County. In addition the person hired will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining district equipment. Other tasks may include help with surveillance activities, clean-up, and running errands.
2nd position: This position will mainly focus on surveillance efforts conducted in the county, but other duties may be assigned. Duties will include setting and collecting CO2 light traps throughout the county, along with some sorting and counting of mosquitoes. Also the person will be in charged of maintaining a sentinel chicken flock located in the county, along with blood testing the chickens with help of district manager. Position will last appx. from middle to end of May until September 25. This position will also assist 1st position at times.
All position are dependent on the amount of mosquitoes and complaints throughout the district. If there is need a 3rd position will be added, same as the 1st. In the same respects if work is slow all positions may have a work week less then 40 hours, 1st position will have seniority over 3rd if conflict arises over who will be sent home first. |
